Denver Broncos who need a hot start in training camp #2: Jamar Johnson, Safety

The Denver Broncos found a gem of a player in 2021 rookie safety Caden Sterns. Sterns saw some action as a rookie when Kareem Jackson was out due to a neck injury in November against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Sterns played well in not only that game but throughout his time on the field as a rookie. He even was sent on several blitzes, recording two sacks of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Jamar Johnson was selected in the same draft, actually back-to-back of Sterns. It felt like an instant competition between the two to even make last year’s roster and Sterns played significantly better.

Johnson is surely on the roster bubble.

Johnson unfortunately dealt with COVID as well as some injuries during last year’s training camp, putting him behind the 8-ball.

The Denver Broncos drafted Delarrin Turner-Yell in this year’s draft and signed J.R. Reed in free agency. Reed signed a one-year contract with the Broncos this offseason.

Reed has played in 16 regular season games throughout his career. He has 15 total tackles.

Yet another position on the team that’s fairly crowded, Johnson is going to have to do a lot to show Broncos coaches that he can stick around.
