Denver Broncos free agent no. 2: Kevin King, CB

Taking a look at the Denver Broncos’ current top five cornerbacks, it might not be a bad idea for the team to consider signing another player at that position ahead of camp.

  • Pat Surtain II
  • Ronald Darby
  • K’Waun Williams
  • Michael Ojemudia
  • Damarri Mathis (rookie)

The Broncos haven’t had the best of luck staying healthy at the cornerback position in the last handful of years. This team needs to be ready in the event that someone goes down, heaven forbid it be one of the top two guys.

History would tell us that the Broncos are going to need someone among their depth to play significant snaps this coming season. Last year, and in a handful of recent years, the team has had to scramble to sign or add depth at the cornerback position.

That can’t be the case in 2022.

Although Bless Austin will be an interesting player to monitor over the course of camp and rookie Faion Hicks will be in the mix, the Broncos could sign someone like Kevin King to fortify their outside corner depth.

King has experience working with Denver Broncos defensive backs coach Christian Parker when the two were in Green Bay, and obviously, the other coaches on the staff that were in Green Bay the last three years will know him as well.

King hasn’t lived up to the billing as a former top pick in the second round of the NFL Draft, but he’s had some stretches of really good play and he could work well in a secondary as talented as the Broncos have right now.

Given the fact that he’s also just 27 years old, he’s a younger free agent at a premium position with high draft status and some remaining upside.
