Broncos’ 2022 projected tackles leader: Justin Simmons

The first name that likely popped into your head was Patrick Surtain, who picked off four passes as a rookie. But Justin Simmons still had five.

Simmons has led the team in interceptions in each of the last four seasons and he has become one of the league’s best overall safeties in the process. He has a knack for making plays on the ball and sometimes, amazing plays, as evidenced by the interception he made (video) against the Detroit Lions last season.

Surtain certainly has the ability to have the kind of season Trevon Diggs did for the Cowboys last year, but he also has a chance to be a real shutdown corner for the Broncos and quarterbacks will likely shy away from him often as a result and go elsewhere with the ball.

Simmons will be able to take advantage of some errant throws by using his tremendous skills as a ballhawk and he could be in line for another season of at least five picks.
