Reason no. 2 the Denver Broncos could finish last place: Pass rushers don’t stay healthy (again)

The Denver Broncos need their edge rushers to stay healthy this season.

I was trying to veer away from just talking about injured players as reasons why the Denver Broncos could finish with the worst record in the AFC West.

Of course, if Russell Wilson goes down or something, that could push the team down the list, right? The same could be said of any other team so that’s just not a valid hypothetical, in my opinion.

However, with the pass rushers, there’s definitely some validity.

Bradley Chubb has obviously struggled to stay healthy for the majority of the past three seasons. We have barely seen him out there whether he was dealing with a knee injury, foot injury, ankle injury, or what have you.

Chubb’s injury history is certainly cause for concern but the good news is, it sounds like he’s fully healthy heading into 2022.

The other issue at this position group right now is free agent signing Randy Gregory. The Broncos prioritized him over any other possible pass rusher they could have acquired, and he immediately needed a procedure done on his shoulder.

That shoulder procedure was not expected to be anything that lingers into the season, but it bears monitoring as training camp progresses.

What happens if this duo struggles with injuries?

Luckily, the Broncos are very deep here, but that doesn’t prevent this position group from being a question mark going into the season.

The Broncos need these edge players — two of the highest-paid players on the team — to stay healthy and make a massive impact.

If they don’t it could gravely affect the team’s overall standing in the AFC West.
