Javonte Williams will be the highest-drafted Denver Broncos player in fantasy football this year, and rightfully so.

Williams has a chance to take a leap into the upper echelon of fantasy running backs in 2022, perhaps not climbing quite to the level of a player like Derrick Henry of the Titans but maybe in the conversation.

Is being a top 10 fantasy back out of reach for Williams this year?

Top five? It could be close.

Because the Broncos have two backs the caliber of Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon, I think it’s safe to be a little more cautious with Williams’ draft placement this year.

Should he be a top-five pick in your league? Probably not yet.

By season’s end, though, Williams could very well have your team in championship contention if he can get more red zone reps than we saw last year, especially in the passing game.

Williams scored over 200 fantasy points in his rookie season and that was while essentially splitting carries and touches right down the middle with Melvin Gordon.

I think Williams will get the ball more this year, and certainly more consistently.

In the 2021 season with Pat Shurmur calling the plays, Williams had:

  • 6 games with 9 carries or fewer
  • 1 game with more than 20 carries
  • Just 4 games with 15 or more carries

The Broncos did not exactly “feed” Javonte Williams and he still managed to put forth RB2 type of production.

Let’s estimate on the low end that Williams has 15 carries per week, averaging close to five yards per carry, he would easily top 1,200 rushing yards and that doesn’t even take into account the damage he could do as a receiver.

I think Williams is poised for a monster year with over 10 touchdowns total, at least.
