The Colorado Avalanche are the 2022 Stanley Cup Champions. Could the Denver Broncos bring a second championship to the city this year?

“All The Small Things” added up to a huge season for the Colorado Avalanche, who found themselves celebrating being crowned the Stanley Cup Champions Sunday evening after putting away the Tampa Bay Lightning and winning the series 4-2.

Most of Broncos Country is also a part of the Avalanche fan base, and if this applies to you, congratulations!

As we know, there is nothing quite like seeing the team you love win it all. It is clear that the energy in the city of Denver right now is unmatched, and the celebration will continue for months.

On that same note, what if Denver sports had the opportunity to keep the celebration going much longer? What if the Denver Broncos brought a second championship home to the city in 2022?

It may seem unlikely but never say never.

Perhaps it is entirely too early for this kind of speculation, but the higher the altitude, the higher the optimism should be. With a new coaching staff that seems to have quickly won over the locker room and not to mention having Russell Wilson at quarterback, Broncos fans have much to look forward to.

Of course, it may seem a bit ludicrous to expect a team who finished 5-11 in 2021 to have any chance of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy just a year later, especially with a brand new head coach.

However, it is important to keep in mind that the changes made at both head coach and quarterback could make all the difference. Just adding Wilson alone should cause a dramatic momentum shift and level the playing field in both the division and conference alone.

However, Nathaniel Hackett and his experience with the Green Bay Packers’ offense could ultimately make one of the biggest differences if the Broncos were to make such a dramatic turnaround, and would have the opportunity to join some pretty good company in the history books:

  • Former Broncos head coach Red Miller became just one of five head coaches in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl in his first season as a head coach in 1977.
  • Though not his first season as a head coach, Gary Kubiak won Super Bowl 50 in his first season as head coach of the Denver Broncos. Kubiak also became the first to have played in a Super Bowl and later won it as a head coach for the same team.

Of course, these are quite the legacies to live up to, and perhaps we are getting ahead of ourselves. But with the jubilation running through the Mile High City right now, who can blame us?

Of course, the Avalanche deserve their own parade and celebration period. However, they have sparked a deeper excitement in the heart of Denver sports fans, and come football season, there is a renewed optimism.

While it certainly could be a long shot, there is a chance that the Denver Broncos could follow in the footsteps of the Colorado Avalanche and bring home the Lombardi Trophy to Denver for the city’s second championship of the year, becoming the first city to do so since Los Angeles in 2020 (Lakers and Dodgers).

Hang on, fans of Denver sports. We are on track for a wild and memorable ride.
