Denver Broncos free agent CB no. 2: Xavier Rhodes

Among a host of intriguing free agents still available, in particular at the cornerback position, is former first-round pick Xavier Rhodes.

Rhodes, at this point, might not be looking to be some team’s CB4 or CB5, but the Denver Broncos could be a good landing spot for him.

Rhodes was a first-round pick out of Florida State back in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.

There’s a George Paton connection there and Rhodes was one of the Vikings’ best picks of that particular period of time.

There was once a time when Rhodes was being talked about in the conversation as arguably the best cornerback in the game.

He’s been solid playing the last couple of years for the Indianapolis Colts and could be an intriguing veteran to bring in if the Broncos really just want to have some strong emergency depth on hand.

Why would you bring in a guy like Rhodes?

What happens if Pat Surtain or Ronald Darby goes down at any point in the season?

The Broncos would have Michael Ojemudia on hand, but the depth right now is mostly young guys without a ton of experience. A veteran like Rhodes could round out the depth at a crucial position if the Broncos are not sold on their youth after training camp and preseason games.
