Broncos’ most interesting position battles ahead of training camp: Inside linebacker

Josey Jewell should be one of the starting inside linebackers this coming season, but what will the team do at the other spot?

The key to that answer probably lies with what the team chooses to do with second-year linebacker Baron Browning. If they keep him inside, he will almost certainly start but if he is moved to the outside, as rumored, that will open the door for free-agent signing Alex Singleton or a guy like Jonas Griffith.

The Broncos chose not to re-sign either Kenny Young or Alexander Johnson this offseason and they didn’t draft a linebacker either. They may be quite content with what they have at the position, even if on paper it looks a bit subpar.

Griffith is the player to watch here. The Broncos traded for him just before the start of last season and he has been rising the ranks and is looking good heading into the coming season.

It should not be a surprise at all if he is starting alongside Jewell when the season kicks off.
