Steve Beuerlein. player. 45. . . 2. QB.

Steve Beuerlein was another well-traveled veteran by the time he got to Denver, serving as a backup to both Griese and Jake Plummer. Between the 2002 and 2003 seasons, he made five starts for the team.

Beuerlein is best remembered for his time as the starting quarterback of the Carolina Panthers. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1995 expansion draft but by the other expansion team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. He then signed with the Panthers as a free agent following that season.

In 1999, Beuerlein threw for 4,436 yards and 36 touchdown passes, both of which are still single-season passing records for the franchise.

Beuerlein was a good veteran presence for the Broncos and threw eight touchdowns for the team in the games he played, but he also tossed 10 interceptions. The team was interested in bringing him back for the 2003 season to remain as the backup, even at 39 years old, but Beuerlein decided it was time to call it a career.

He finished his career with over 24,000 yards passing and 147 touchdowns.
