For those that don’t remember this guy, his signing with the Broncos in 1999 was a very interesting story.

Taken with the No. 13 overall pick in the 1987 draft, Chris Miller had a terrific career as the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. For seven seasons, he slung it around for that team and was one of the more underrated players in all of football, making the Pro Bowl in 1991.

To this day, he ranks third in most statistical categories on the Falcons’ all-time passing list.

He went to the Rams for two seasons before some bad luck with concussions forced him into retirement following the 1995 season. But following the retirement of Elway, Shanahan was able to talk Miller into making a comeback attempt.

In 1999, three years removed from playing competitively, Miller looked to get back in the league and provide support to the team’s new starter, Brian Griese.

The 1999 season was a rough one and Miller was called on to make starts in Weeks 9-11 and helped the team win two of those three games. But he suffered another concussion during that stretch and the decision was made at that time for him to walk away for good.
