Denver Broncos on thin ice no. 3: Mike Purcell, NT

As I mentioned in the last sentence in the intro, some players will likely have the same role they did the previous year. On the defensive side of the ball, the Denver Broncos have a defensive line that is projected to be quite good.

The team added defensive tackle D.J. Jones from the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, and with Mike Purcell’s underwhelming performance last season, he might find himself looking for a job or traded to another team in 2022.

Purcell suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury in October of 2020 and in 2021, suffered a finger injury that required surgery.

While the finger injury/surgery isn’t a major deal, a Lisfranc injury is another story.

To some people, Purcell is a major candidate to be included in a trade this summer or maybe even during the season before the deadline. It would be smart to hold off on that sort of trade until later on, however, so that the Broncos have some depth in case of injury.
