Following the 2022 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos signed Northwest Missouri State wide receiver Kaden Davis as an undrafted free agent.
The Broncos signed three wide receivers following the draft. In addition to Kaden Davis, the team brought in Jalen Virgil and Brandon Johnson.
Name: Kaden Davis
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 190 pounds
School: Northwest Missouri State
Position: Wide receiver
Davis caught 44 passes in 2021 for just over 700 yards and he led his team with 10 touchdown catches. He has traveled to the NFL the hard way.
Playing at Northwest Missouri State, Davis had to get an invite to participate in the pro day of the Missouri Tigers. Playing at such a tiny school, he basically had no chance of being drafted, but he was likely thrilled to catch on with a team and have a chance to show what he can do this summer.
Davis runs a 4.44-second 40-yard dash and that could help lead to him being productive at the next level as there could certainly be a future spot for him as a slot receiver in the league. Initially, he is going to have to make some contributions on special teams, perhaps fielding kickoffs and punts.
The Broncos, like many teams this time of year, have a bevy of wide receivers on the 90-man roster. Currently, there are 13 receivers on the roster. That forces Davis to have to wade through a lot of other players to get noticed.
Chances of making the 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 2.5
The odds of Davis making this team in 2022 are not high and that is because there is so much talent in front of him with several spots at wide receiver already being basically locked up.
But it will be interesting to see what he can put out there for the coaching staff to evaluate in terms of future production. Players such as Tim Patrick and Kendall Hinton both started their careers as practice squad guys and have worked their way into playing time with Patrick now having a significant role.
That will be what Davis needs to do. He will need to take advantage of his speed off the snap and show that he can contribute as a slot receiver. His relatively small size will limit what he’ll be able to do at the professional level, particularly as a target on the outside, but if he can become a quality slot receiver, he could prolong his career for a few more seasons.
Davis has been assigned jersey No. 13.
