Will the Denver Broncos end a six-year playoff absence in 2022?

That will certainly be the plan and most fans are going to be expecting that now that Russell Wilson is the team’s starting quarterback. But Wilson alone does not guarantee a playoff spot.

However, it is expected that the Broncos will be a much more competitive team this coming season now that they finally have a solid quarterback. Playing in what is easily the toughest division in football, they are going to need him.

Recently, Adam Schein of NFL.com ranked each team that will enter the 2022 season with a playoff drought of at least three seasons and their chances of ending that drought.

He put the Broncos at No. 3 on that list. There are two teams that he had ahead of them.

This is the one you have to take at least some issue with, as the Dolphins don’t have a more talented roster than Denver and they don’t have a winning history behind them, having made the playoffs just four times since the year 2000.

They have also sat out the postseason in each of the last five years.

The Dolphins did have a winning record last year but that didn’t stop them from firing head coach Brian Flores. Like the Broncos, they have a new head coach in Mike McDaniel and there could be an adjustment period for the team that goes beyond this season.

Yes, they did trade for Tyreek Hill, one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the league, but that acquisition alone does not make them a playoff team.

Unlike the Chargers, the Broncos will not face the Dolphins in the regular season this year but it’s hard to understand a list where the Dolphins have a better chance of ending their playoff drought than the Broncos unless Schein just feels the AFC West teams will take that much out of each other.
