Five things we learned about the Denver Broncos this offseason

3. Edge rusher was a ridiculously huge need

The investments that the team made into their edge rushers was insane to watch this offseason.  The Broncos had perhaps the worst situation in 2021 with their edge rushers, which included an injured Bradley Chubb, Jonathon Cooper, Malik Reed, and Stephen Weatherly.

It was clear that the team needed to make a huge investment into this position, and George Paton did just about everything he could do improve the position.

He signed Randy Gregory, which has appeared to be a controversial decision, drafted Nik Bonitto, and the team has also committed to Baron Browning coming off the edge full time.

The top of the depth chart for this position is now:

  • Bradley Chubb
  • Randy Gregory
  • Nik Bonitto
  • Baron Browning

It’s unknown whether this group will be competent together in 2022, but it’s clear that George Paton knew that a massive improvement was necessary.

DJ Jones was also signed along the front seven, who appears to be the replacement for Mike Purcell.

Even though he may not be a huge threat as an interior rusher, he could still prove him boost on the inside.
