Denver Broncos player no. 1: Von Miller, EDGE

Pick Analysis. EDGE. 1. 16. Scouting Report. Buffalo Bills. VonMiller. player

Some are going to dispute the validity of Miller even being on this list. After all, he ended last season with the Los Angeles Rams.

That doesn’t really matter.

We all saw Von Miller’s social media posts campaigning for a return to Denver.

We know that the Broncos’ biggest need in the 2022 offseason (after quarterback) was edge rusher.

We also saw the Broncos spend big money at the position in free agency, signing Randy Gregory to a five-year deal.

The Broncos maintained after signing Gregory that he was their top target off the edge all along. Considering how quickly they moved and how much money they were willing to spend, we have no reason to think they were lying about that.

It appears as though Von Miller was not atop the team’s priority list to bring back in 2022, and that’s something I can’t help but wonder if the team will regret.

If Miller was worth a $120 million deal for a contending team like the Buffalo Bills, then why would he not have been for the Denver Broncos?

The Broncos could have brought Miller back for the same price, and I think most fans would have called the offseason a grand slam.

Heck, they could have still gone forward with the same offseason plan entirely, swapping out Randy Gregory for Von Miller.

I think it’s reasonable at this point to have healthy reservations about Gregory’s ability to have the same type of impact as Von Miller. Most have made their peace with the move, but Gregory is recovering from a shoulder procedure that will keep him out of OTAs and potentially training camp.

Miller is out on the field working with the Bills at Buffalo’s OTAs.

I’m not going to complain about the Denver Broncos’ 2022 offseason — they got Russell Wilson in the fold — but I can’t say I fully agree with the strategy of Randy Gregory over Von Miller in free agency.
