Denver Broncos player no. 2: Bryce Callahan, CB

Even after the Denver Broncos picked up veteran K’Waun Williams in free agency, many in Broncos Country were hoping the team would further fortify its depth at the cornerback position by re-signing nickel corner Bryce Callahan.

Sure, good health was hard to come by for Callahan in his three years in orange and blue.

He missed the entire 2019 season and then parts of the 2020 and 2021 seasons due to injuries and the really unfortunate part about it was, Callahan was really good when healthy.

Thankfully, the Broncos went out in the 2022 NFL Draft and added some depth pieces to the secondary, including a potential eventual starter in fourth-round pick Damarri Mathis.

What really stinks about the Broncos saying goodbye to Bryce Callahan is the fact that he went and signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Not only that, but he signed for less than $1.3 million.

Why didn’t the Broncos offer him that to just come back and be part of the rotation?

It’s great to have young players to be excited about but the Broncos are also expected contenders. Re-signing Callahan would have been a contender move.

Instead, he’s reunited with Brandon Staley in the Los Angeles Chargers’ defense, adding depth to one of the most improved secondary units in the NFL.
