A hard-nosed player who could carve out a role in the secondary

Damarri Mathis is another player who could be a defensive sleeper for the Denver Broncos in 2022.  Projected as a third-round pick, the Broncos drafted him in the fourth round, so they got decent value for him.

Mathis is a slot corner.  He’s got good length and size to be a slot cornerback and has sub-4.40 speed.

One thing that sticks out about Mathis that not many defensive backs have is his toughness and tackling ability.

He’s a sure-handed tackler, keeping with the theme that the likes of Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson excel at.

He’s also got the ability to play on special teams, and again, like Christopher Allen, is in a great spot.  He will not be starting week one and is not in a position where he needs to feel rushed.

Denver’s secondary is among the league’s best, and Mathis has a great opportunity to be the next great slot corner for the Broncos.

Damarri Mathis is a terrific run defender as well, which would only help his chances at getting on the field.

K’Waun Williams is projected to be the starting NCB for the Denver Broncos, and he’s battled injuries during his career.  If he goes down, Mathis might be called to take his spot.
