Broncos who need a huge summer: Seth Williams, Wide receiver

The Broncos have an absolute logjam at wide receiver, which is unfortunate for a young, growing player like Seth Williams.

A sixth-round pick out of Auburn last year, Williams showed some promise as a young player and although the days of him becoming a regular contributor on offense might be years away, they are there.

Williams spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad but was called up late in the season and caught a pass for 34 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Broncos have four wide receivers on the roster that are almost certainly going to make the team in Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick and K.J. Hamler. Fifth-round pick Montrell Williams should have a good shot as well, particularly if he can contribute in the return game.

That doesn’t leave much room for a guy like Williams and as a result, the Broncos may have to let him go. They could turn around and sign him to the practice squad again, but if he were to hit waivers every other team would get the chance to grab him if they liked before the Broncos had that chance.

Williams could easily become the next Tim Patrick for the team, but having the patience (in terms of roster space) to get him there could be tricky.
