Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams is a player ready to burst onto the mainstream scene in 2022.

Following a solid rookie season in which the second-round pick rushed for 903 yards, Javonte Williams is one of the top bandwagons in the NFL to jump on right now, at least according to Adam Schein of NFL.com.

Schein names nine bandwagons for fans to jump on right now before they become too crowded and of those nine, only five are current players. That is high praise for Williams, who possesses the talent to easily be one of the league’s best running backs.

He runs with authority and purpose, as evidenced by the 63 tackles he broke as a rookie. Only Jonathan Taylor, a league MVP candidate last season, had more. But Taylor did that on 129 more carries.

Schein tells readers to pipe down about Melvin Gordon splitting carries with Williams and I could not agree more. Gordon will be good for added insurance because the Broncos are fairly thin at the position, but if Gordon and Williams truly split carries this season, it will make absolutely no sense.

While Gordon is a solid veteran presence who can churn out tough yards when called upon, Williams is clearly the more dynamic runner and the player opposing defenses will be much more worried about.

The Broncos will obviously call Gordon’s number plenty of times as well but if they were as sold on this backfield combination as some people are, they wouldn’t have waited so far into free agency to bring Gordon back.

Last year there was basically a 50-50 split in the backfield with Gordon and Williams each carrying the ball 203 times. This season, it needs to be more like 60-40 in favor of Williams, if not even more.

Williams’ strong, straight-ahead style should pair quite well with what Russell Wilson will bring at quarterback, making things like play-action more effective.

With the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson thrived with Marshawn Lynch and to a lesser extent, Chris Carson running the ball. Each of them were strong, straight-ahead runners.

Williams should have a breakout season in 2022 and become one of the best young running backs in the entire league.
