Broncos starter who could lose job to a rookie: Mike Purcell/DeShawn Williams, Defensive line

The Broncos have two defensive linemen in place in Dre’Mont Jones and D.J. Jones but there will be competition for who lines up with them in the starting lineup.

The Broncos will likely use a big rotation and have several of their defensive linemen seeing action this season, but which player is going to get the most snaps?

Veterans Mike Purcell and DeShawn Williams will be in the mix for that role but there is also an exciting rookie who won’t be held back for long, Eyioma Uwazurike.

Uwazurike is one of the most promising prospects from this Broncos draft class and he should catch the eyes of the coaching staff quickly.

Uwazurike does need to develop more to have success at the next level but his size (6-foot-6, 320 pounds) and raw athletic ability make him a player who, if coached up right, could become a force at the professional level.

He is not likely to be a starter from day one but he could easily squeeze his way into the starting lineup at some point in the season. The Broncos are not exactly deep along the defensive line and though both Purcell and Williams can compete for playing time, at least one of them is just as likely to not even make the 53-man roster.
