Former Denver Broncos player no. 5: Royce Freeman, RB, Houston Texans

There was once a time when it felt like Royce Freeman was going to be to the Denver Broncos what Javonte Williams has now become.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

Freeman’s outstanding rookie training camp and preseason was overshadowed by Phillip Lindsay’s meteoric rise in 2018.

Freeman still played a significant role that year, including having a really fun game against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game the Broncos nearly won, but it was short-lived.

After an ankle injury he suffered in his rookie year, Freeman was seemingly never the same for the Broncos.

He caught a lot of passes in his second season, but he never seized a role as a full-time runner and caught on with the Houston Texans last year after getting cut by the Carolina Panthers.

The Texans re-signed Freeman in 2022 and he seemingly has a decent shot at earning a significant role in the 2022 season.

The Texans don’t exactly have a solidified bell cow in their backfield right now so Freeman, who is still only 26, could find himself in a pretty great situation.
