Denver Broncos potential surprise cut on DL: McTelvin Agim

Let me just once again preface by saying — I do not hope this is what ends up happening.

My hope and even expectation is that McTelvin Agim is going to go out in his third NFL offseason and have an absolutely monster breakout campaign.

I felt like he had made tremendous strides last offseason but for whatever reason, Vic Fangio and his staff barely played Agim at all, even with a lot of injuries on the defensive front.

I think Mike Purcell is a much more likely cut candidate from this position group, but there’s definitely a scenario where Purcell makes the team and a player like Agim doesn’t.

Even though he was a third-round pick just two years ago, George Paton did not draft Agim, the previous regime did.

Now, does that mean that Paton is just going to clean house of every player John Elway drafted? Absolutely not. In fact, he’s brought back a lot of core guys Elway picked on long-term deals or extensions.

With that being said, it’s time for Agim to prove himself worthy of a starting position.

The Broncos drafted Eyioma Uwazurike out of Iowa State in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and Matt Henningson out of Wisconsin in round six.

Marquiss Spencer is back after spending most of last season on the practice squad.

Jonathan Harris is back. DeShawn Williams is back.

The opportunity is clearly there for Agim to establish and entrench himself as a top-three defensive lineman for the Broncos this season but there’s also room there for any combination of those other guys to take the top six spots and leave Agim on the outside looking in.
