Denver Broncos surprise cut candidate at RB: Mike Boone

After seeing the potential impact Mike Boone brings to the table last year against the Kansas City Chiefs, it would certainly be a huge bummer to see him let go this offseason.

The Broncos brought in Boone last offseason and he was essentially the team’s replacement option for Phillip Lindsay on the roster.

Boone was supposed to play a special teams role and contribute as a third back behind Melvin Gordon and rookie Javonte Williams, but we only got to see that come to fruition in one game last year — in Kansas City.

Unfortunately, the fact that Boone didn’t play hardly at all last season puts him on this list almost by default.

The Broncos have Damarea Crockett on the roster, another player who could fill that RB3 and special teams role for them.

Boone is slated to count over $2 million against this year’s cap and while it seems insignificant, cutting him could save the Broncos over $1.2 million.

If Boone has a big offseason and preseason, the cap savings are irrelevant. Maybe he could be a trade piece if both he and Crockett can have good offseasons for the Broncos, but ultimately, he can still play his way onto the 53-man roster.

But he’s got to do exactly that.
