Denver Broncos potential surprise cut at CB: Michael Ojemudia

There are really two potential scenarios I could see happening at the cornerback position that would be surprising in 2022.

One of them is, the Denver Broncos could trade Ronald Darby and save over $9 million in cap space.

Why in the world would they do that?

Well, what happens if Michael Ojemudia has a huge offseason and looks like a starter? Sure, you can keep all your guys around for depth, but you also want your guys to play if they can.

Ojemudia was a starter his whole rookie season and got to play at the very end of 2021 after an injury in the preseason, and he certainly has starter potential over the long term.

Again, do you sacrifice long-term stability for the short term? Do you bench a guy like Darby so Ojemudia can play?

The Broncos don’t have a plethora of proven depth at cornerback but they have a lot of guys that can play. We could see a trade at this position group one way or another, even if it’s not something as extreme as trading Darby.

On the other hand, what if Ojemudia struggles in year three? What if he gets hurt again or struggles with injuries throughout camp?

You can’t help but feel like he’s potentially on thin ice right now but the pendulum could swing in some extreme ways for him in 2022.

The pressure is on for a big offseason from Ojemudia, a high third-round pick just two years ago.
