Broncos undrafted free agent spotlight on LB Kadofi Wright
Following the 2022 NFL Draft, one of the first undrafted players the Denver Broncos agreed to terms with was Kadofi Wright.
Kadofi Wright spent six years at the University at Buffalo and played in 49 career games for the Bulls.
Name: Kadofi Wright
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 230 pounds
School: Buffalo
Not long after the draft concluded, the Broncos brought in Wright on a contract, one of three undrafted linebackers the team added to its roster. In his college career, Wright recorded nearly 150 total tackles, eight sacks and four interceptions.
He displayed sideline-to-sideline ability to make plays and he was all over the field for the Bulls. But the one aspect of his game that easily stands out is his ability to drop back into coverage.
Wright is a bit smaller for an inside linebacker at 230 pounds, but being a little smaller gives him more speed to get in position to cover tight ends, slot receivers and running backs out of the backfield, which he was able to do at the college level at a high rate.
That is evidenced by his four career picks, two of which he brought back for touchdowns.
Of course, that was against competition in the MAC Conference at the NCAA level, and doing the same against professional players will be a bit more difficult to accomplish.
Chances of making 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 4.5
Wright will need to make his mark on special teams for sure, but he joined this squad the right position. Inside linebacker is where the Broncos truly need depth and if he could outperform a guy like Justin Strnad this summer, which is easily within the realm of possibilities, he could steal a roster spot.
Wright is a player who should have a spot on the practice squad for sure but the Broncos seemingly have an undrafted player make the team every single season and if it happens this year, this guy is on a short list of those who could do it, in my opinion.
I would give Wright a better chance of making it than Kana’i Mauga, the player featured in the previous spotlight.
Mauga went to a bigger school in college and may have a more recognizable name, but Wright’s ability in pass coverage gives him a chance to, at the very least, be called up off the practice squad to play in some games for the team later in the season.
