Where does Denver Broncos secondary rank in AFC West?

1. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers’ secondary is absolutely insane.

Last year, they took Asante Samuel Jr in the draft.  This year, they added J.C. Jackson and Bryce Callahan in free agency.  They’ve also got Michael Davis who is a very good corner.

Their top safeties consist of Derwin James and Nasir Adderley.

This unit has both high quality, Pro Bowl level players and great depth.

They’ve got four starting-caliber corners on their roster and also added a ton more talent along their front seven, which I will talk about soon.

It’s clear that the Chargers are going all-in while Justin Herbert is still on his rookie contract.

I’m not sure the secondary has a single weakness.

J.C. Jackson is the best ball-hawking player in the NFL, and Derwin James is an incredibly gifted player who can serve multiple roles on the defense.

I would expect the Chargers’ passing defense to rank near the top of the league, probably ahead of the Denver Broncos.

However, just because the Chargers have the best secondary in the AFC West, does not mean they are an overall more talented team or anything of the like.

Denver has stronger receivers, running backs, and a better quarterback.

Fortunately, Denver has usually been able to win at least one game against the Chargers every year for a while now.

Overall, though, I like Denver’s secondary.  There really isn’t much more they can do to improve it going into 2022.
