Where does Russell Wilson rank among AFC West QBs?

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

There’s no real argument here.  Patrick Mahomes is indeed the most skilled QB in the AFC West.  He’s been on a torrid pace to begin his career which is only just beginning.

Outside of 2017, which was a redshirt year behind Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes has led his teams to a 49-13 regular season record, throwing 151 touchdowns on 36 interceptions.

He’s averaging nearly 40 touchdown passes per season in 2018-2021.

He completes 66% of his passes, throws for a ton of yards, and doesn’t take a lot of sacks.

Mahomes has an 8-3 career playoff record as well.  Fortunately, the Denver Broncos are in a great position to finally knock off the Chiefs in 2022.

The Chiefs’ free agency period wasn’t great, and with the additions of Wilson, among a few other players, I think it’s a safe bet that the Broncos have a more talented roster than the Chiefs.

The Chiefs’ defense still has several holes, and their receivers are only moderately threatening without Tyreek Hill, who was traded this offseason.

Kansas City will still be good.  Expect them to win double-digit games yet again, much like the Wilson-led Seahawks did for years.

However, the Denver Broncos’ roster is stronger on both sides of the ball, with Russell Wilson serving as a true equalizer to Mahomes.

Even though Denver has a stronger team, Patrick Mahomes is still the best QB in the division.
