OLB Simon Fletcher – 2nd Round, 1985

Before Von Miller, there was Simon Fletcher. Denver’s premier pass-rusher throughout the Elway era, Fletcher terrorized opposing QBs for 11 seasons. A ferocious edge rusher who also excelled against the run, he was a one-man wrecking crew who had multiple 10+ sack and 100+ tackle seasons during his time here.

One of just three Broncos to post 15+ sacks in a season after a 1992 campaign that saw him earn 16 sacks and 99 tackles, he was the face of this front seven for over a decade. During his time in the league, he was one of the most prolific defenders despite inexplicably not being named to a Pro Bowl.

The Denver faithful know the grit and speed he brought to this defense for years, and his production speaks for itself. He’s second all-time in Broncos history in sacks (97.5), forced fumbles (20) fourth all-time in tackles behind Dennis Smith, Karl Mecklenberg, and Steve Atwater, and tied for second in postseason sacks (6.0) with Rubin Carter.

Unquestionably one of the greatest Broncos ever, I’d have him lined up across from Von on any all-time team. He’s honored in the Broncos Ring of Fame and was also named to the Broncos’ 50th Anniversary Team. A true legend in Orange & Blue.
