Denver Broncos Running Back (3, 9/53):

Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon, Mike Boone

The band is back in town. The band returns to the Mile High City. A surprise for some—including myself—the Denver Broncos did not address running backs in the 2022 NFL Draft. The team re-signed Melvin Gordon just a few days prior to the start of the draft.

It was for just one more year, with the expectation that Javonte Williams will handle most of the carries in year 2. Will that still be the case? Last season, they each had the same number of carries for almost the same amount of yards. Since Gordon is back, seeing the same usage may be the smart way to go.

One thing is clear: it won’t be very long until we see Williams have significantly more carries than he did as a rookie. Gordon won’t be around forever.

Mike Boone rushed the football four times for 35 yards, including a long of 16 yards. From word around the Broncos, it appears they still like him and we should see him on the roster when cuts are made.

I can see Damarea Crockett being cut after playing just five offensive snaps in 2021. The thing that could save him from the chopping block is that he played on 61 percent of the team’s special teams snaps.
