Essang Bassey, Cornerback

The Broncos have a deep cornerback room and after using draft picks on Damarri Mathis and Faion Hicks, it only got deeper.

The Broncos have invested a lot of free-agent money and high draft picks on this position in recent years but one of the guys they invested next to nothing in was Essang Bassey, who was an undrafted free agent in 2020.

Bassey looked like he had a chance to be the next Broncos’ undrafted star following that season but things changed for him in 2021 when he was hobbled for much of the year and then waived.

Bassey was claimed by the Los Angeles Chargers, played in one game for them and was waived again. The Broncos chose to get him back and give him another chance following that move but things are far from guaranteed for him with the Broncos.

If he can regain his 2020 form, he’ll have an outside chance at making the roster. But his chances won’t be good with all of the players in his way and he could see his second stint in Denver ending sooner rather than later.
