Denver Broncos key takeaways after NFL Draft

2. Right tackle not that urgent?

For the one-millionth draft in a row, the Denver Broncos did not select a tackle, perhaps indicating that the position is not as urgent as some think?

Most mock drafts for the Denver Broncos did include a tackle, which makes perfect sense, as there’s little to indicate that the long-term answer is on the roster

This offseason, for the position, George Paton re-signed Calvin Anderson and signed both Tom Compton and Billy Turner.

Maybe Paton has faith in one or more of these players for more than a year?  This would have been a perfect scenario to draft someone in the middle rounds and allow him a year or so to develop.  The Broncos’ right tackle situation isn’t terrible, but adding a draft pick to the mix would have made it stellar.

Maybe George Paton does indeed think the team is just fine?  Maybe he views Billy Turner as a more than one-year solution, or maybe he thinks Calvin Anderson can finally make the jump?

Either way, it was interesting to not see a tackle draft again, but maybe George Paton has a different view than us.
