Denver Broncos 2022 Day 3 mock draft: 5th-round picks

145. Kyle Philips, WR, UCLA

The Denver Broncos went to the UCLA well to get a pass-catching tight end, and here in round five, they finally land a wide receiver who can return punts for them.

Every time you turn on UCLA to watch Greg Dulcich, this number two keeps popping off the page.

Although Kyle Philips lacks elite long speed, he more than makes up for it with short-area quickness, agility, route running, and outstanding footwork.

Hunter Renfrow comparisons have been thrown out there, and they are appropriate.

162. Spencer Burford, OL, UTSA

Dipping into the UTSA waters once more for this mock draft scenario, the Denver Broncos finally get a developmental offensive tackle prospect to work with in UTSA’s Spencer Burford.

Burford came to UTSA as a four-star prospect, the first four-star prospect in school history, and he wound up showing some intriguing things as both a left tackle and left guard.

He doesn’t have a ton of time on task at right tackle but he could develop there for the Broncos as well.

179. Pierre Strong, RB, South Dakota State

Absolutely love the upside with Pierre Strong in this year’s draft.

One of the top outside zone running back prospects in the class, Strong is going to get drafted based on his ability to find running lanes and accelerate to full speed in the blink of an eye.

With sub-4.4 speed, there’s plenty to like about strictly his fit in the Broncos’ offense as a runner but he has added value as a receiver as well.

Yes, the Broncos just drafted Melvin Gordon. But Strong can be your RB2 beyond this season and provide chunk plays throughout the season.
