The Denver Broncos have selected UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich 70th overall. The selection is bad news for Shaun Beyer.

The Denver Broncos added a tight end to their roster with the 70th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Coming to Denver is Greg Dulcich of UCLA.

Dulcich is a 6-foot-4, 243-pound tight end who ran a 4.69 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

The selection of a tight end is not surprising given the trade of Noah Fant. The Broncos also have starter Albert Okwuegbunam and new signee Eric Tomlinson.

The other guy you may have forgotten about at this point is Shaun Beyer. Beyer has a grand total of no statistics while in the NFL. With the selection of Dulcich, we could see Beyer off the roster when teams have to make final roster cuts.

Dulcich unfortunately does not add anything when it comes to blocking, so the expectation has to be that he’ll contribute in the passing game.

Maybe the Broncos can use Dulcich in a better way and make him happier than they made Noah Fant.

Dulcich had a breakout year for UCLA in 2021, when he caught 42 receptions for 725 yards and five touchdowns.

Dulcich is a little bit smaller than Beyer but he is surely going to make a bigger impact than Beyer ever did or even ever will for the Denver Broncos. The Broncos should run quite a few two-tight end sets with new offensive coordinator Justin Outten and Russell Wilson likes to throw to the tight end position.

At the end of the day, production needs to be there if you’re going to make an NFL roster and Beyer just doesn’t offer a whole lot. The Denver Broncos obviously knew they needed to add to the position and that’s exactly what they did, early.

I would love to see George Paton try and swing a deal that sends Beyer off to a tight end-needy team. Unfortunately, I don’t know if he’s shown enough to warrant a trade. However, a team may like what they see and feel like they can get something out of him that the Broncos didn’t.

It’s also possible that Beyer ends up on the team’s practice squad.

Either that, or his time in the NFL may be at an end. Either way, keep your eye on that potential transaction.
