What will the Denver Broncos do with their first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft?

The NFL draft kicks off this Thursday night, but the Broncos won’t have a pick until later in the second round, which will be on Friday. That will give general manager George Paton some time to sit back and see how his board falls.

The Broncos should still have plenty of great options available when they go on the clock with the No. 64 pick in the draft, which will be the latest that they have made their first pick in a draft since 1995.

There are many different directions in which the Broncos could choose to go with this pick and it’s likely that Paton will take the top player on his board rather than reach for a specific need.

Cornerback, edge rusher and inside linebacker will all be possibilities at the No. 64 spot but taking an offensive tackle could be in play as well.

The Broncos are going to need a right tackle perhaps as much as any spot on the roster. The team currently has Billy Turner, Calvin Anderson and Tom Compton set to battle for the starting spot this summer but no matter who wins that competition, the team still needs a long-term answer there.

The following four players could be seen as a long-term answer by Paton.

Before coming to Ohio State, Petit-Frere was the number one ranked offensive tackle recruit in the nation. His stock has dipped a bit since those days, but he was still a two-year starter for one of the country’s elite programs.

He made nine starts at right tackle and 11 starts at left tackle before being named to the All-Big Ten First Team following the 2021 season.

He should come to the league as a strong run blocker based on what he did in the zone-heavy run scheme used by the Buckeyes. He is quick for his size and has a nice initial burst out of his stance, but he is not going to be a day one starter.

Powerful edge rushers could easily toss him around so he is going to need some time to develop. But once he has a season under his belt, he could easily be a long-term starter in the league.

He could be an ideal pick for the Broncos and could be in the starting lineup as soon as 2023.
