The Denver Broncos should try and trade for Deebo Samuel

With the recent news that Deebo Samuel wants a trade, the Denver Broncos should try their hardest to acquire the player from San Francisco.

Perhaps one of the wildest and unthinkable scenarios in the NFL would be the Denver Broncos not only trading for Russell Wilson but also trading for Deebo Samuel, who apparently has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers.

Well, why not try to acquire him?

I think there are good arguments for doing so.  The Denver Broncos have clearly positioned themselves to be competitive this season.  The addition of Russell Wilson gives us that indication pretty clearly.

Denver has a very strong roster all the way around.  Their defense is set to be solid, as usual, and their offense, and yes, their offensive line, is mostly set in place.

However, we’ve seen instances of “the rich getting richer” as it pertains to NFL teams.  There’s nothing wrong with adding more and more talent to the roster–if the player(s) help the team win, then why not bring them in?

Sure, the financials of this situation might make it nearly impossible, but the Los Angeles Rams are seemingly creating cap space out of thin air.

One reason why the Denver Broncos could trade for Deebo Samuel is I think they have a very attractive pool of players to choose from for the 49ers to acquire back.

For example, they lost Laken Tomlinson in free agency to the Jets.  Part of the trade for Deebo Samuel could include Dalton Risner, who excelled in Rich Scangarello’s offense back in 2019.

Guess what?  “Scangs” came from the Shanahan tree.  Risner would be a very natural fit in San Francisco. Even though Scangarello is in Kentucky as their new OC, the same offensive principles are in place.

The Broncos could also offer one of Tim Patrick or Jerry Jeudy in the deal.  Trading Samuel would give the 49ers a need among offensive playmakers.  Perhaps they’d be interested in Tim Patrick, who was recently extended at a much cheaper rate than Samuel will sign for, or even Jerry Jeudy, who has four years of team control left.

Then, Denver could also throw in a draft pick, perhaps their 64th overall pick, or a pick in 2023.

It seems unlikely, but I think Denver could easily put together a very competitive package to acquire Deebo Samuel.

He would give Denver yet another weapon on offense to help in the loaded AFC West.

The next reason why I think the Denver Broncos should try and make this trade is because the Kansas City Chiefs are apparently interested in acquiring him.

It makes a ton of sense too.  The Chiefs just lost Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, and they got a metric ton of draft picks back.  So, the Chiefs could put together the most lucrative draft pick offer, and perhaps the 49ers would be willing to simply take all draft picks in a trade instead of a mix of picks and players.

San Fran doesn’t have a ton of picks and doesn’t make their first pick until 61st overall.  They have seven picks in total.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, have 12 draft picks, including the 29th, 30th, 50th, and 62nd overall picks in the 2022 NFL Drafts.

They got a boatload for Tyreek Hill, as I mentioned.

They could realistically trade three of their picks in 2022, which would help replenish the 49ers’ draft capital, and still have a ton of picks of their own.

Who’s to say the Chiefs wouldn’t offer both of their first-round picks?

That wouldn’t hamper them at all–they’d get a premium player in Samuel, and still have 10 draft picks to work with.

Simply because the Kansas City Chiefs could acquire Deebo Samuel, the Denver Broncos should try as well.
