Denver Broncos 2022 NFL Draft prospect Greg Dulcich
By Brett Chaves
In-depth analysis on 2022 NFL Draft tight end prospect Greg Dulcich and how he could be a good fit in the Denver Broncos offense.
If you read my first scouting report back in March, you’d know that I was very adamant about edge-rushers. With nine days left until the 2022 NFL Draft, my thoughts have begun to change a little bit.
I still strongly believe that Denver Broncos General Manager George Paton is going to add a rusher with the 64th selection, but this time around I think it will come in the form of an inside linebacker.
Other than that pick, Denver still has a lump sum of needs to fill before they have a chance of really channeling their full potential.
Tight end is one of them.
As things begin to narrow down in terms of rankings, one thing that really stands out is how Greg Dulcich is sliding.
Greg Dulcich a 2022 NFL Draft fit for Denver Broncos
Going into the NFL Combine, Dulcich was debatably the number one tight end prospect in the draft. In fact, to this day, analysts still have him as the best talent. However, there is now a realistic chance he slides into the late second, potentially the third round.
Other prospects such as Trey McBride are ranking higher because of their combine performances. However, Dulcich also had a standout day.
In the overall drills at the combine, Dulcich posted a 4.69 40-yard dash and 122-inch broad jump. His dash was also in the top five for tight ends along his class.
Although he posted some solid basic numbers, what makes his draft plummet even more confusing is how well he performed in the gauntlet. His hand-eye coordination was a spectacle to watch, and he was still able to move nearly flawless down the line.
Dulcich also shined in the over-the-shoulder drills. On multiple occasions, Dulcich was able to get a clean look at the football, become aware of where it was landing, and make the catch in stride.
Where does Dulcich fit into the Broncos’ scheme?
As someone who is 6’4″ and 243 pounds, this kid has speed. He understands the capabilities of stretching the field and working the flat. As mentioned, he also has some tremendous hand-eye coordination.
This could pair nicely with someone like Russell Wilson, who is known to stretch the field and make those gunslinging plays.
Dulcich can also be a nice compliment to newly-crowned starter Albert Okwuegbunam. Albert O, for short, has always been known to be the pass-catching type of tight end. While Greg Dulcich is of similar stature, he possesses the ability to be a much better blocker.
During press conferences at the Combine, Dulcich mentioned his desire to be better as a blocker. He showed effort during drills and made progress in the right direction. It’s also important that he gained 40 pounds of muscle while at UCLA.
As a blocking tight end, you want to have that weight on your side.
Okwuegbunam is also prone to injuries. If he were to go down, the Broncos would have a solid rookie in Dulcich to fill that void.
Russell Wilson has never worked in a dual tight-end system before. However, with these two in his arsenal, I’m sure it would be a massive positive for the Broncos.
With Albert O leading the way and Dulcich as the second-man high, there’s no ceiling for what could happen.
Be sure to tune in for more scouting reports before the NFL Draft. For now, keep your eyes out on Greg Dulcich come the third round for the Broncos.
