The Denver Broncos don’t have a selection until number 64 overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but history says they could get a good one.

The Denver Broncos traded for Russell Wilson, so there will be nothing to complain about if they have to wait until pick 64 overall to make their first selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Barring a trade up the draft board, that is where we’ll see the first Denver Broncos selection made, and if that’s the case, recent history shows you can make really good use of that particular selection.

History is on Denver Broncos’ side with the 64th overall pick

Let’s take a look at some recent history with the 64th overall pick.

2021: Kyle Trask, QB (Buccaneers)
2020: Jeremy Chinn, DB (Panthers)
2019: DK Metcalf, WR (Seahawks)
2018: Tyquan Lewis, DL (Colts)
2017: Taylor Moton, OT (Panthers)
2016: Kevin Byard, S (Titans)
2015: Jordan Richards, DB (Patriots)
2014: Justin Britt, OL (Seahawks)
2013: Dwayne Gratz, DB (Jaguars)
2012: Dwayne Allen, TE (Colts)
2011: Randall Cobb, WR (Packers)

As you can see here, recent history actually is quite favorable with the 64th overall pick. That list includes some absolute bangers, including Randall Cobb, Kevin Byard, Taylor Moton, DK Metcalf, and Jeremy Chinn.

Dwayne Allen and Justin Britt were also really solid picks in this slot and the jury remains very much out on Kyle Trask.

Not all of these players were picked in the second round at pick 64 for various reasons (picks being forfeit for one reason or another) but the 64th slot has produced some studs.

Can the Broncos find a way to strike gold as well?

Given the fact that George Paton did so well with his 2021 NFL Draft class, we have every reason to believe he is going to nail it.

What position group will George Paton target with that pick? There may be some positions to target here that could surprise a lot of people.

One way or another, it looks like Paton is poised to get a good player in this slot. Every draft class is different so it’s impossible to know whether or not you’re going to get a Dwayne Gratz or a Kevin Byard, but this is a deep draft class and Paton should find some nice value.
