Colin Kaepernick is open to being a backup quarterback, as he wants an opportunity back into the NFL

Colin Kaepernick’s last snap was in 2016 with the San Fransisco 49ers. Since then, the 6’4″ QB has been out of the league, winning a settlement with the National Football League (NFL), creating a Netflix series, and authoring a book in the process.

The entire time, Kaepernick stated he would stay ready in hopes for a comeback, hosting many throwing sessions and recently throwing in front of scouts during Michigan’s spring football game.

Recently a clip has surfaced of Kaepernick stating his willingness to be a backup quarterback and just wanting the opportunity to compete.

This has many wondering one thing…Should the Denver Broncos be the team to bring in Colin Kaepernick as a backup QB?

The answer is yes, and here’s why:

Yes, Russell Wilson will be the guy in charge of the huddle, but if the recent years of QB struggles and injuries taught us anything, it is that another experienced QB is never a bad thing.

Right now the Broncos QB depth chart consists of Wilson, Brett Rypien, and Josh Johnson. Adding Kaepernick to the mix would be beneficial with his modern-day dual-threat ability. He can come in on trick plays to extent that Marcus Mariota did with the Las Vegas Raiders and can add a new threat to the game plan.

It also wouldn’t hurt to have a better option for security just in case of any unforeseen injuries that could occur in the season.

Kaepernick’s numbers speak for themselves. He’s started 58 of 69 games with 72 passing touchdowns compared to just 30 interceptions. He has 2,300 total rushing yards with 13 rushing touchdowns.

He brought the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013 after posting a 5-2 record once he won the starting job from Alex Smith and posted his best season the following year going 12-4.  He has a playoff record of 4-2, with two of those wins being game-winning drives.

All of this experience could help add to what is expected to be an electric offense.

What do you think? Should the Broncos bring in Colin Kaepernick?
