Considering overall talent, Jay Cutler was probably the best player on this list. He had an absolute cannon for an arm.
Many fans were shocked when the Broncos chose Cutler with the No. 11 overall pick of the draft after trading up with the St. Louis Rams to get him. The Broncos had played in the AFC Championship Game the season before and Jake Plummer was still a solid fit.
Shanahan wanted to go in a different direction, bringing in the gunslinger from Vanderbilt. And though Cutler was highly talented, his skills never really translated to success on the field.
The Broncos never went to the playoffs under Cutler and he was only with the team for three seasons before Shanahan’s replacement, McDaniels, chose to trade him to the Chicago Bears.
It will always remain a big what if when considering what Cutler could have done had he had more time in the Mile High City but he finished his time there with respectable numbers, passing for 9,024 yards and 54 touchdowns.
The lack of a playoff appearance and the fact he only played for the Broncos for three seasons is what keeps him in the No. 2 spot on the list but as stated, overall talent-wise, he was probably the best quarterback the team ever drafted.
