Although Vic Fangio is not the only connection for some of these players, you can’t help but wonder if Fangio’s absence from the coaching world in 2022 is affecting the potential job market for some of these Denver Broncos free agents.

Before Fangio decided to take the 2022 season off from coaching, I figured that many of these defensive free agents for the Broncos would sign wherever he landed.

Now, Ed Donatell got a gig with the Minnesota Vikings, Brandon Staley is obviously with the Chargers, and there are other disciples elsewhere that could make a fit for some of these players.

However, as things are today, Alexander Johnson is one of a handful of defensive free agents for the Broncos without a new home for the 2022 season.

Johnson, who will be 31 on Christmas Eve, tore his pectoral six games into the 2021 season after racking up over 220 tackles between the 2019 and 2020 campaigns in Denver.

One aspect of Johnson’s game that should be very attractive to teams is his ability to attack the line of scrimmage and be an asset against the run. He’s also effective as a blitzer.

Because Johnson spent a handful of years out of football due to an ongoing legal investigation/situation, he doesn’t have as much wear and tear on his body as most 30-year-old NFL players.

He should still get a shot somewhere on a one- or two-year deal as a starting inside linebacker.
