Denver Broncos who can be extended in 2022

2. Dre’Mont Jones, DL

Perhaps one of the more underrated players in the NFL is Dre’Mont Jones.

Jones, who turned 25 in January, is set to enter his 4th season in the NFL.  He was a third-round draft pick, so there’s no fifth-year option for him.

Through three seasons, Jones has 15.5 career sacks, 86 total tackles, and 28 quarterback hits.

Dre’Mont Jones is really good at football, plain and simple.  He’s able to generate consistent pressure and is solid against the run.

Being that Denver traded Shelby Harris away, retaining Jones becomes even more important, even with the addition of D.J. Jones.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Jones is offered an extension at some point this offseason,  but with the draft, a few short weeks away, and Jones obviously still being under contract, I think an extension in season is the most likely scenario.

Denver is still a bit thin along the defensive line.  Dre’Mont Jones and D.J. Jones will be two of the starters, but there’s still a lot of uncertainty about the rest of that party.

Mike Purcell regressed a good bit in 2021 and could be a cap casualty, and McTelvin Agim hasn’t shown much if anything at all.

Keeping Jones in Denver long-term is an easy decision.  He’s still only 25 and is poised to hit the prime of his career and get even better.
