Denver Broncos Mock Draft: Defense gets upgraded
Denver Broncos mock draft, pick 115 (own pick): Martin Emerson
You can never have too many cornerbacks in this league. Especially in one division that deals with a pass-happy team in Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Denver Broncos can also re-sign Bryce Callahan if they would like, but it should not cancel the idea of adding a development corner or a player who can still see some action in year one. If there’s one thing we know about the corner room in Denver it is that injury has plagued the team often.
The addition of Martin Emerson gives the Broncos another long and lanky corner who provides decent strength and tackling at the position. If there’s one thing Broncos fans have been treated to it is corners who are willing to be secure tacklers. Emerson brings nice read and reaction skills before crashing down hard for a tackle.
It is unsure if Emerson will be a nickel corner at the next level, but he would fit well into the zone defense from Evero. This move would provide a challenge to Michael Ojemudia and the rest of the room.
Particularly Ojemudia who has been in the dog house with the past regime and has seen less playtime it seems. Emerson would challenge Ojemudia. Both provide outside possibilities at a corner.
One area in Ojemudia has leverage in his playmaking. Emerson though with the length he presents can become good in this area. While I’m a fan of Ojemudia, this allows Denver a good competition for that spot and gives Emerson chances on specie teams as a gunner early.
