The Denver Broncos’ first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft comes with the 64th overall selection. Who are three realistic targets at pick 64?

As we approach the 2022 NFL Draft, draft boards around the NFL are beginning to be finalized as the teams across the league formulate their draft day plans.  For the Denver Broncos, they are set to pick for the first time with the 64th overall selection.

Even though Denver may not pick until the very end of round two, they are still doing a ton of draft prep.

Anything can happen on draft day.  Perhaps a player George Paton and co. really like begins to fall down the draft boards, or perhaps the draft isn’t happening the way they thought it would.

I do think it’s unlikely that Denver makes a significant trade up from 64.  I think it’s possible that they could trade up a few spots, though.

George Paton has said many times how much he values draft capital, so I anticipate that he will make a selection with the 64th overall pick. A player drafted with the 64th overall selection may not be a household name during this process.

However, we’ve got you covered here at Predominantly Orange.

Who would be realistic targets with the 64th overall selection when the NFL Draft begins at the end of the month?

1. Leo Chenal, LB, Wisconsin

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: George Paton is going to draft another hyper-athletic player.

Someone who seems to be climbing up the draft boards is Wisconsin’s Leo Chenal, who is a specimen, to say the least.

Chenal, who is 6’2″ and 250 pounds, is an ideal size for an NFL linebacker.

He’s got immeasurable power and toughness, two things that are needed to play linebacker at the next level.

He’s also got a ton of other desirable athletic traits, evidenced by his 9.99 RAS score, which stands for “Relative Athletic Score.”

Chenal seems to be more of an athlete than a linebacker, so more discipline and better technique would help him succeed, but he’s someone who a team is going to fall in love with, and perhaps Denver will be that team.

What’s great about the uber-athletic players is they excel at something you cannot coach–they’re athleticism.  However, that’s not even half the battle.  Sure, Chenal is athletic, but if he cannot diagnose plays at the next level, if he cannot develop a strong instinctual tendency like Josey Jewell has, then he won’t succeed.

However, excellent size, speed, strength, and agility make him an interesting prospect to consider.
