Ronald Jones

The Broncos have Javonte Williams, a beast to be sure and one of the best young running backs in football. There isn’t much behind him unless you are a believer that Mike Boone is set for a big year.

Melvin Gordon remains unsigned and is still looking for his next stop and there could even be a chance that he returns to the Broncos. Not long ago, I put together a list of cheaper options to replace Gordon with and on that list was Ronald Jones.

Jones, a former second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sat on the market for awhile before the Kansas City Chiefs decided to give him a shot. In Kansas City’s high-powered offense, he could be a serious weapon.

He would have made for a perfect option behind Williams. He can run inside, he can break tackles, he can catch the ball out of the backfield and he can get into the end zone in goal-to-go situations.

Williams should be in store for a big season in his second year but he needs the right guy behind him to give him a breather. That could have been Jones. The Broncos will have to hope that it’s Boone or a player they select in the draft.
