What should the Broncos do?

If deals can be reached, Paton should re-sign both Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan. These moves would immediately fortify the secondary for at least the 2022 season.

With one of his draft picks in the second or third round, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for Paton to select a cornerback there as well. Cincinnati’s Coby Bryant and Alabama’s Josh Jobe are two prospects that the team could look at in one of those slots who are both players that could either develop into a starting role or be ready to play as soon as needed.

If the Broncos were to bring back Callahan to rotate in with Williams then the two of them along with Surtain and Darby should be able to hold things down, barring injuries. I would be a bit worried about Ojemudia as he missed 90 percent of the 2021 season and wasn’t exactly great in 2020 as a rookie either.

A rookie such as Bryant or Jobe could easily supplant him.

At safety, it makes sense to bring back Jackson so that the back end of what was a good defense doesn’t skip a beat. If Jackson is not brought back, the team may be best served to move Sterns over to the other safety spot. He was terrific as a rookie and should see the field more than the 28.5 percent of snaps that he did last season, even if Jackson returns.

Next. A trade idea with the Jaguars. dark

The Broncos are not in dire need of more cornerbacks and safeties but in a division that features Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes and Davante Adams, they need to throw everything they can into defending the opposition’s passing attack.
