Broncos 2022 free agency tracker: Who’s coming and who is somewhere else?
These players who played for the Broncos this past season will be donning a new uniform in 2022.
Teddy Bridgewater, Quarterback
It was not expected that Teddy Bridgewater would be back after his lone, up-and-down season in Denver. That was made official when he signed a new contract with the Miami Dolphins.
There, Bridgewater will serve as the backup and mentor to Tua Tagavailoa. The Dolphins will be team No. 6 for the former first-round pick.
Micah Kiser, Linebacker
The Broncos took Micah Kiser off of the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams last year and he appeared in 10 games for the team, making two starts. He posted 19 tackles in that time and could have grown into a solid piece for the team.
But the Las Vegas Raiders saw something in him and decided to bring him in, taking a player from their division rival.
Nate Hairston, Cornerback
Nate Hairston has been around the league since coming in as a fifth-round pick out of Temple in 2017. He had been with Denver since late 2020 but will be looking for a new start with the Minnesota Vikings, the fifth team he has played for.
Mike Ford, Cornerback
Mike Ford’s stay in Denver was a short one. The defensive back used mostly for his play on special teams was acquired via waivers from the Detroit Lions just ahead of the start of the 2021 season last year.
He decided to sign a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons who he will be looking to make more of an impact.
Stephen Weatherly, Defensive end/linebacker
The Broncos traded for Weatherly during the 2021 season, obtaining him from the Vikings. He played well in his short time with the team and it seemed he would be re-signed. Instead, he agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Browns late in free agency.
Kenny Young, Linebacker
I suggested that the Broncos re-sign Kenny Young (or Alexander Johnson) following the draft as the inside linebacker position was still a bit weak. Instead, the player the Broncos received in a trade from the Los Angeles Rams last season will play for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.
Bryce Callahan, Cornerback
Bryce Callahan was a Vic Fangio guy and the new coaching staff didn’t seem to have any interest in him, instead signing K’Waun Williams and drafting Damarri Mathis. That left Callahan to join the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency.
Kyle Fuller, Cornerback
Kyle Fuller seemed like a terrific addition to the Denver defense but the marriage between player and team never worked out. Several weeks after the NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a new deal with Fuller.
Austin Schlottmann, Offensive line
Schlottmann played in 42 games for the Broncos, making seven starts. The Minnesota Vikings saw him as a piece that could be part of their rotation along the offensive line and gave him a one-year deal worth a little over $1 million.
