Denver Broncos signing no. 4: Tyrann Mathieu, S

I know a lot of Denver Broncos fans would love to have Kareem Jackson back. For the time being, it doesn’t appear as though the team actually does. Jackson recently revealed that he and his representation have yet to hear from the Broncos.

What are the Broncos planning at the safety position?

Will Caden Sterns get a promotion as the other starter alongside Justin Simmons?

Maybe.

If that’s not the plan, however, I think the Denver Broncos should seriously consider signing Tyrann Mathieu, who would be a great replacement for someone like Kareem Jackson in this defense.

Mathieu is younger (he will be 30 this season), and has been the heart and soul of the Kansas City Chiefs defense since signing with them back in 2019.

Mathieu is a playmaker at the safety position who excels not only in coverage but coming up and making plays in the running game, racking up 41 tackles for loss over the course of his career to this point.

The Honey Badger coming to Denver would send Kansas City Chiefs fans into an absolute frenzy with all that has transpired this offseason. If the Broncos could steal one of their best defensive players, it would be icing on the cake that has been this 2022 offseason.

Safety is one of the positions the Denver Broncos may still need a starter and at this point in free agency, it’s reasonable to assume you could get a player like Mathieu at a very team-friendly rate.
