Denver Broncos FA signing no. 3: Kwon Alexander (or someone else at LB)

With the news that the Denver Broncos are planning to have young Baron Browning play more on the EDGE, or at least give it a shot, the team has a newfound need at the inside linebacker position.

Someone is going to be quick to point out the Alex Singleton signing, but I’m just not sold that Singleton is going to head into the 2022 regular season as the starter alongside Josey Jewell.

Perhaps it could be another young and promising player like Jonas Griffith taking that role, but a player like Singleton is going to need some legitimate competition, in my opinion.

Kwon Alexander is just 27 and even with his injury history, he would add some big-time speed to the position and he can play all three downs effectively. He had seven QB hits last season as well as 3.5 sacks and an interception. He also added seven tackles for loss.

If not Kwon Alexander, the Broncos should be serious about considering re-signing someone like Alexander Johnson or even bringing in a big-name free agent like Bobby Wagner.

Even if the team goes to the NFL Draft at this position, I don’t think going into the season with Josey Jewell, Alex Singleton, Jonas Griffith, and Justin Strnad is going to cut it, but I could be off base on that.

I’d err on the side of caution here and bring in another veteran to pencil in as the starter next to Jewell if Browning is going to be playing on the EDGE.
