Players to re-sign

Long before the Wilson trade, I talked about what the Broncos should do with each of their pending free agents. If the proposed path here were to come to fruition, the Broncos should only bring back the following players.

Kenny Young, Linebacker: If the Broncos were to sign Wagner and Hicks, they also have Baron Browning, Young could be kept for a depth piece. Johnson and Jewell could go searching for a new deal elsewhere and the Broncos would be set at inside linebacker for some time to come.

Eric Saubert, Tight end: The Broncos would have Howard and Albert Okwuegbunam to lean on in the passing game, but they would still need a tight end to come in and do the heavy lifting that Fant never did.

Saubert fills that role nicely and though he won’t ever stretch the field on offense, he does the little things that don’t show up in the box score.

Stephen Weatherly, Defensive end: Weatherly was a nice rotational piece that the Broncos acquired last year and as thin as the defensive line is following the Wilson trade that sent Shelby Harris away, the Broncos need all the productive pieces that they can get.

Bryce Callahan, Cornerback: The Broncos will need to do something at the cornerback position with both Callahan and Kyle Fuller set to hit the market, and at least one of those guys should be brought back.

The team has Patrick Surtain locked in as the No. 1 corner on the team, but they will need to find another player to go with Ronald Darby and Michael Ojemudia, even if they re-sign Callahan.
