Denver Broncos free agency predictions: Filling the gaps in 2022
Denver Broncos free agency predictions recap
Alright, so let’s take a look at a recap of the moves we’re projecting for the Denver Broncos here. Someone else is in charge of figuring out how or if this would all work with the salary cap, but these are the players I would like to see brought in.
Top priority: EDGE
- Von Miller (or Chandler Jones or trade for Danielle Hunter)
Next up: Right tackle, Defensive Line
- Joe Noteboom (right tackle) along with Dennis Kelly (swing tackle)
- Sebastian Joseph-Day (DL) and/or Harrison Phillips (DL)
- Folorunso Fatukasi (NT)
Linebacker
- Re-sign Josey Jewell and/or dart throw on Leighton Vander Esch
Running back
- Leonard Fournette
Wide receiver/Tight End
- Will Fuller on prove-it deal (WR)
- Tyler Conklin or OJ Howard (TE)
Defensive backs
- Justin Reid (safety)
- Mike Hughes (CB)
- Jeff Gladney (CB)
These moves would give the Denver Broncos about as close to a complete roster as you could possibly ask for heading into the NFL Draft. How would they be able to pull this off financially?
That is what people like Rich Hurtado get paid the big bucks for, but in theory, you could move some of Justin Simmons’ money around and extend Russell Wilson to really free up the cap space for players to sign in Denver.
The thing to keep in mind is that players are going to want to sign in Denver. My personal brand is younger free agents, which is reflected in the majority of these moves, but that may not be a philosophy that George Paton shares.
I think your best free agency investments are in the age range of 25-28 on multi-year or short-term deals.
There are exceptions, of course, but over time, this seems to be the best practice. There is some projection involved here at a crucial position like right tackle with Joe Noteboom, but the draft is also a factor there.
We know George Paton likes to really heavily attack weak areas so don’t be surprised to see doubling and tripling up at certain positions.
And expect Paton to be extremely aggressive.
